The Village Scribe Association Trust has two positions available for an ICT school support project in Makhanda/Grahamstown. The mission of the Trust which was founded in 2010 is to bridge the gap of inequality in South Africa by introducing schools and individuals in historically disadvantaged communities to ICT.
The primary objective of this new project is to conscientise and train educators and learners in disadvantaged schools in the potential of ICT in education through establishing a pattern of regular use of digital resources in schools both formally and informally. Two positions are available for a period of 12 months:
Project Coordinator:
This full-time position will entail planning, developing and implementing teacher training in the use of ICT for educational purposes. In addition, the coordinator will facilitate improvement and maintenance of ICT resources in selected historically disadvantaged schools. A program of open computer labs at these schools will also be initiated.
The successful applicant should have a combination of several of the following skills:
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience in development of teaching resources
  • Teacher or trainer expertise
  • Substantial ICT knowledge
  • E-learning expertise
  • Proven experience in project management
  • Experience in the non profit sector
  • Proven communication skills
  • Fluency in isiXhosa and English
Project intern:
This part-time position will provide administrative and technical support to the project.
The successful applicant should have a combination of several of the following skills:
  • A matric pass or higher
  • Good technical ICT ability
  • Good administrative and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in isiXhosa and English
  • Passion for social development
