awarenet Peace Song Video Shoot

Saturday, the 2nd of November 2013 was the big day for the winners of the awarenet Peace Song Competition on Peace Day. They all got up early and were ready for the music video shoot with Deon Pietersen of Photoelectric Productions.

Locations were chosen by the learners themselves, so they opted for a site with a view (1820 Settlers Monument up on the hill) and a green site (Grahamstown Botanical Gardens).

They were very excited and could not believe their luck to be not only professionally recorded but also filmed by a professional film maker. Here are some quotes of the blogs that were written on awarenet subsequently:

  • It was such a great experience, it was like we were real rappers!” Ziphelele Losi
  • It started to rain before we finished shooting the video but it didn’t stop us from finishing our video.” Hlumile Hlasela
  • The video shoot was a moment of a life time. It brings up pride. We have made something for our school. It will be the last year at Ntaba Maria School, so we might not see each other again.” Siyabulela Mali

The video shoot was made possible by Sonic Art Studio and Rhodes University whose staff  donated their time to the awarenet Peace Project which resulted in available funds that could be invested in the music video. The footing will now be edited by Deon Pietersen. We are very much looking forward to the outcome! 🙂

Once the video is finished, it will be published online. Since not all our learners have Internet access at home, we want to produce a CD for each participant incl. all songs and the video of the project. If you want to help us to make sure everyone holds their own copy in their hands, you can donate now to the project.

Contribute to the CD production!
