We are here!

Hey everyone! It’s Kim and Larissa again! You might remember us from our first post earlier this year when we were still in Germany preparing for our voluntary service. Guess what!? We are finally here!

We spent the first couple of days in Port Elizabeth where we met our mentor for the Eastern Cape and had some time to calm down and then head off to Grahamstown. Lukas, who has been the volunteer at VSA for the past year, welcomed us heartily, even picked us up from the airport and explored Grahamstown with us. After one week, we are already feeling at home and are coming to grips with work as well. We have visited some of the schools and met most of the learners we will be working with over the next twelve months.

For the moment, we are busy organising an event for the International Day of Peace on September 21st where we are going to cook with one of our classes and hand out homemade meals to the Home of Joy orphanage in the Joza Township. We are hoping for a long-term cooperation with the orphanage since our visit there left a long-lasting impression on us. After having accompanied Lukas and Terri for a few days, we are ready to start our own projects and are looking forward to working and spending more time with the learners.

Don’t hesitate to drop us an email, check out our blogs or follow us on Facebook and Twitter! 🙂
