Afrofuturist Animation Workshop!

awarenet learners got a chance to learn how to make advanced computer animation during the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. The learners took part in the Afrofuturist Animation Workshop run by Alette Schoon of the Rhodes University School of Journalism and Media Studies.

The excited young workshop participants all created their own moving and talking cartoon characters which were displayed live the following day at a festival exhibition.

awarenet lab supervisor Thandoxolo Royi made his cartoon character out of images of fruit and kitchen items. About his experience he says that that "the workshop was great. I am used to drawing cartoons on paper since primary school but I never knew that you could draw one from a computer and still make it look artistic."
