We were recently able to distribute tablets we received from the Cacadu Development Agency to be used in the Olico maths program which Awarenet has been implementing since 2022.
Last Thursday we took a site visit to see how our Social Employment Fund participants incorporate the tablets during their maths tutoring lessons at the George Dickerson Primary School. Instead of working with the Olico maths paper booklets the tutors now tutor the learners on the same topics, but digitally. While a booklet can get lost at home or easily damaged, the tablets are safely stored at school and only handed out when used for accessing the Olico maths website.
The learners adapted quite quickly to the tablets and like to work on maths problems on their new tablets rather than on the Olico maths work booklet. Not only do they feel like learning becomes easier when done on a digital device, but they also seem to have more fun while learning. The tablets give learners the chance to train their computer literacy and maths knowledge hand in hand.
A great thanks to the Cacadu Development Agency for making this possible!
