Awarenet helps out the department of health

This blog post is about Ziyanda and Mfundo, two of our Social Employment Fund (SEF) participants working in the Anglo-African clinic run by the department of health in Grahamstown.

Through an agreement with the local department of health, Awarenet is providing part-time data capturers through the SEF program which helps the department digitalise their patient files. Also, Awarenet is providing some cleaners which helps the department with the all-important task of keeping its clinics hygienic.

Ziyanda is working at the reception registering all the patients and taking care of filing while Mfundo is responsible for cleaning inside and outside the clinic but also helps wherever assistance is needed.

Both of them got in contact with Awarenet during the second half of last year and got employed though the SEF shortly after participating and completing a work readiness workshop held by Awarenet. While Ziyanda got introduced to Awarenet via word of mouth, Mfundo heard of Awarenet for the first time by attending a music project at AMP at the Joza Youth Hub.

After they finished a training at the clinic, that introduced them to all things work they got employed making the clinic staff very happy as they requested help earlier on. The clinic is providing help for everyone but cannot cover every issue which is why they send patients they are unable to assist, to Settler’s hospital or other facilities.

Both Ziyanda and Mfundo have been working at the clinic for almost 7 months now and are very happy with the help they can provide. They told us that they really do enjoy the work they are doing and that they learned a lot and got new insights about various topics. This is why both of them would love to apply for a full time job at the clinic and are even working voluntarily in their free time.

Overall, we are very happy to say that the employment of Ziyanda and Mfundo at the Anglo-African clinic has been such a great success and that we were able to get into the matter of the request for help from the department. Both our SEF participants and the clinic staff are very content which is great to hear. We are proud to be able to contribute to the health of the community and that we fulfill our mission of using IT to improve society.
