Since the beginning of this year, we are hosting OLICO maths lessons in the computer lab of D.D. SIWISA Primary School. Two groups, each consisting of three maths tutors teach the learners mathematics four times a week.
The lessons are going very well since the learners are diligent and the WiFi connection and the computers are in good condition.
Since the various different topics in mathematics are strictly building upon each other, it is crucial for the learners to get the basics right. Without a well trained knowledge of arithmetic operations and other basic topics, the learners will have a hard time with learning mathematics especially when it comes to more advanced content. This is why our trained maths tutors will focus on the multiplication and division for now so that real progress for each learner can be guaranteed.
In these first sessions our tutors also already tried out the newly acquired teaching methods and little implementations which they were taught at the OLICO tutors training at Rhodes University just a few days prior. The implementation of energizers, games, competitions and more contribute to a more interesting and fun yet also focused and energetic and thus productive learning experience for the learners. The elements learned at the training could already successfully be implemented and showed great results.
We are happy to see Awarenet growing and are glad that we can help out. Knowing that we fulfill our mission of making a positive contribution to the development of society is something we are very proud of.
