From the 18th to the 25th of July the event “Trading Live for Mandela Day” took place all over Grahamstown. The basic idea for Trading Live is that all Rhodes staff, students and community organizations donate 67 minutes of their time to build new relationships in the community. All members of the community could offer their own skills, talents, interests or hobbies. Everybody could request to learn from each other.
Nosie Mahlaba Ngqwala, Terri-Lynn Penney, Rieke Heitmüller and Antje Hering washed dishes and picked up rubbish for 67 minutes at Samuel Ntsiko Primary School. Everyday the kitchen staff serves food for more than 600 learners. It was a good opportunity to get to know other people’s jobs and their daily life. Unfortunately we had to notice a lack of dishes and too little food for everyone.
