awarenet has for the third consecutive year received a grant from the HCI Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited which main shareholder is the South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union.
The grant will be used for the project “ICT for educational success – empowering a cohort of disadvantaged students”. This is a collaborative project awarenet has initiated with fellow non profit organization Inkululeko , an organisation also based in Makhanda/Grahamstown which offers both academic and entrepreneurial support to local high school learners.
The project aims to bring a group of Inkululeko high school learners on a weekly basis to the computer labs run by awarenet. The learners, who all have scant or no access to computers neither at school nor home, will be trained in how to use ICT resources intelligently. We aim to show the learners the educational possibilities the use of ICT can offer and also how ICT gives access to a wealth of information which can be beneficial for life choices.
We are grateful for the HCI Foundation giving us and the group of learners this great opportunity!
