Robotics lessons at Makana Public Primary School are being carried on successfully as new learners join the course regularly. On Monday the 16th of September, the two new German volunteers of Awarenet visited the course for the first time and were surprised that so many students were there, especially completely new ones.
It was noticeable that the atmosphere was diverting yet focused at the same time, resulting in the fact that the learners did not only learn something new but also had fun doing so. They were determined to keep going even if they didn’t always succeed in programming the robot correctly which is especially important when it comes to the preparation for the local Robotics competitions.
All of the new learners, who visited the course for the first time, were shown each of the components of a robot and were given a basic explanation of how to program one. Additionally, they were given assistance by the Awarenet tutors when it was needed. Everyone gets support and no one is excluded thus resulting in a constructive work environment.
The robots need to be assembled, coded and aligned properly on the floor to name just a few tasks the learners need to follow. Every time before the robot is programmed, the learners have to calculate the path the robot is going to take – this acquires not only concentration but also strategic thinking.
The Robotics courses also highlight the importance of teamwork and communication between each other as it is simply not possible for one learner to complete all of the tasks alone. All of the learners can share their suggestions and need to accept others’ opinions. Everyone can try their own way of addressing the task leading to the fact that no one gets bored or alienated.
